Enjoy reading!<\/p>\n<p>When planning their holidays, most people want to try something new \u2013 but not too\u2026 expensive, complicated, extreme, eccentric, distant\u2026 or even too unfamiliar.<br \/>\nExcept for a small group of people who seek exactly that \u2014 and they\u2019ve most likely already experienced sailing and the adventures that come with it. But that doesn\u2019t mean yacht sailing necessarily fits the above descriptions.<br \/>\nIf you\u2019ve reached the realization, \u201cI want something different!\u201d but you\u2019re not sure what that should be \u2014 keep reading.<br \/>\nWhen planning your yacht vacation, it\u2019s important to create a concept for yourself (and your family) by selecting from some of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A holiday where I can fully unwind and sip cocktails under the blazing sun<\/li>\n<li>Sunbathing on deck and swimming in crystal-clear waters in a hidden bay<\/li>\n<li>Disconnecting from the hectic pace of everyday life<\/li>\n<li>Staying in isolated places, preferably without seeing other people<\/li>\n<li>Visiting new islands, villages, and small port towns, where I can explore local atmosphere, history, cuisine, and endemic drinks<\/li>\n<li>An active holiday to see and photograph as many new places as possible in a week or two<\/li>\n<li>Learning to sail and trying to steer a yacht during the trip<\/li>\n<li>Primarily focusing on learning how to operate a yacht<\/li>\n<li>Fishing or diving<\/li>\n<li>A romantic getaway or honeymoon on a yacht<\/li>\n<li>Escaping my partner for a week or two \u2013 whatever happens out there<\/li>\n<li>Escaping the kids with my partner<\/li>\n<li>Being all together and showing the kids new and exciting adventures<\/li>\n<li>A mix of all the above on a reasonable budget<\/li>\n<li>A luxury yacht charter \u2014 price is not an issue<\/li>\n<li>You tell me<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Yachting experiences don\u2019t break the rules of the general holiday criteria listed above \u2014 BUT they can offer much more and many different types of experiences that often combine into one trip, either by plan or by fate.<br \/>\nYes, yachting can also offer more eccentric or extreme adventures, though those are not always suitable for a family vacation \u2014 but that\u2019s a topic for another article.<br \/>\nOf course, you may have questions. Here are a few of the most important ones:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who do I want to share this experience with?<\/strong>\u00a0Friends, a friendly family, strangers?<br \/>\nThis is crucial \u2014 many groups of friends realize on day two of a yacht trip that they have very different interests. Some want peace and quiet in bays and visits to towns with little sailing; others want the opposite. Fortunately, there are different types of yacht experiences and various boat sizes to suit all kinds of groups. Soon enough, you\u2019ll find what fits you best.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is it suitable for children?\u00a0<\/strong>Parents often worry whether kids will adapt to the yacht environment. The truth is, kids adapt much faster than adults \u2014 they quickly find their place, games, and fun onboard.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Will I get seasick?\u00a0<\/strong>If you\u2019ve already decided you will \u2014 probably yes! But if you let go of your prejudices, relax, and enjoy yourself, you\u2019ll soon realize your worries were unnecessary, and you\u2019ll adapt much faster than expected.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What exactly will happen during the trip?<\/strong>\u00a0You can plan the destination and timing according to your preferences. You can also choose an experienced skipper (captain) who will plan a fulfilling journey and advise you throughout. But EXACTLY what will happen \u2014 you won\u2019t know in advance. The real boss is the weather forecast. You\u2019ll just have to live it. A good captain will have a plan B, C, or even Z.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How much will it cost?<\/strong>\u00a0The good news is that yacht rentals are increasingly affordable. For a more detailed answer, check:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%BB%D0%BA%D0%BE-%D1%81%D1%82%D1%80%D1%83%D0%B2%D0%B0%D1%82-%D0%BF%D0%BB%D0%B0%D0%B2%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B8%D1%8F%D1%82%D0%B0-%D1%81-%D1%8F%D1%85%D1%82%D0%B8-emil-ivanov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cHow much does a yacht trip cost?\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>How do I choose the right trip for myself or my family?<\/strong>\u00a0<strong> Where do I start?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Start by defining the sailing area, the travel period, your companions, a starting budget, and your desired level of activity. Look around. You might even have a friend with a yacht.<br \/>\nIn recent years, the market for yacht vacations has expanded. For Bulgarians, the most popular destinations are Greece, Croatia, and Turkey. There are various options available:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Short (trial) trips in nearby areas, usually over a long weekend. These let you test the experience without a big financial risk. You might not cover many miles, but you\u2019ll get a taste of yacht life \u2014 and probably start planning your next, longer trip right away.<\/li>\n<li>Week-long trips with family and friends. The most preferred type of yacht vacation. Note that during peak season in popular areas, your budget will need to stretch for more activity and demand.<\/li>\n<li>One-way charters \u2014 unlike typical round-trip itineraries, the start and end points are different, usually decided by the yacht owner. These often offer great deals, but you\u2019ll need to handle some logistics.<\/li>\n<li>Flotillas \u2014 People sail in flotillas for many reasons: when there are too many people to fit on one boat, when you&#8217;re a small group who wants to meet others, or when you have a license but prefer the support of a more experienced leader. Flotillas are more complex to organize (especially in high season) but can save money. Just make sure to have a trusted flotilla leader.<\/li>\n<li>Specialized trips \u2014 including training voyages, sailing courses, regattas<\/li>\n<li>Fishing trips<\/li>\n<li>Combined trips involving kayaking, climbing, diving, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Luxury charters \u2014 a big topic deserving its own article.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Sounds great \u2014 but how do I make it happen?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll need to trust someone \u2014 a friend\u2019s recommendation, a skipper with good reviews, a travel agency, or just your inner drive to change something in your life.
